Welcome! I’m Jamie Hilldore. By day, my world is shaped by the energy, connection, and dedication of being a full-time teacher. But when the school day ends, you will almost always find me stepping into a completely different rhythm—one dictated by the setting sun, the shift of the seasons, and the pull of the great outdoors.
Living in Holland, Michigan, it is nearly impossible not to be inspired by the landscape right outside our front doors. In fact, it was a photograph of one of our local tulips that recently won a People's Choice Award—a deeply encouraging moment that cemented my decision to invest more time, heart, and intentional learning into this creative journey.
While I have always loved taking photos, this recent chapter has been about moving from just snapping pictures to truly understanding the craft of capturing light. For me, being out in nature with a camera is a form of therapy. It is a deliberate, necessary pause in a busy world—a chance to stand by the water, breathe, and appreciate the quiet wonders around us.
My work focuses on the vivid interplay of light and color, whether that is found in the grand scale of a landscape or the intentional lines of local architecture.
My collections are an ongoing love letter to the elements that define the Lakeshore and the places I travel. I am endlessly drawn to:
- The dramatic, painted skies of a West Michigan sunset.
- The historic lighthouses guarding the coast.
- The bright, brief bloom of spring tulips.
- The rare, unforgettable magic of the Aurora dancing over the dark water.
